Can't Play Games...Can't Do Much of Anything
Apr. 23rd, 2009 | 03:35 am
...madonn!
It seems everyday that passes the less and less I can use my PowerBook G4.
I really believe that Apple left PowerPC users in the dark when they made the crossover to Intel.
Even when they went from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X 10.0 (which required a bit more RAM and some processor speed) they smoothed the transition at least to some extent.
In all actuality Apple was like, "Screw you PPC Users!"
More and more now updates and applications no longer support PPC and/or Mac OS X 10.4
Leaving those with highend Power Mac G5s highly screwed.
So not having the PowerBook G4's Supplemental Disk with Mac OS 9 files (it wouldn't be much use to me anyways for the following) and my CD/DVD Drive inoperative...
I can't use Classic applications, I can't load any applications, games, etc.
Plus the fact that my trackpad doesn't work, on it's 3rd (and last) charger and second battery.
I am left with a computer that can't really do much of anything--that I want...
Which is the chief reason for buying a laptop: to do what you want with it.
Although that is hardly true (at least with me) with computers running Windows Operating System it is or rather was true with Apple and it's computers.
Although recently, as I've written in my livejournal:
Apple's Product: 12' PowerBook G4 1.5GHz w/ 1.25GB DDR SDRAM and 80GB HDD has been leaving a bitter sometimes sour taste in my mouth.
Not just due to the recent occurences but also past occurrences when it went out of comission back two years ago in May.
I was forced to use my old iMac Bondi G3 running Mac OS 9.2.2 w/ 64MBs of RAM and an 8GB HDD(!)
Currently that particular machine is still running in excellent condition however with Mac OS X 10.3 and 384MBs of RAM.
Yet that computer, despites it's age hasn't given me the amount of problems my PowerBook has and it's eleven years old.
Here I have a computer half it's age that I can't do what I want with it...

Law and Order...
Apr. 22nd, 2009 | 04:03 am
Freakin' Madonn!
I Watched Law and Order: Criminal Intent for only one reason--Jeff Goldblum.
Here I am intently watching the episode waiting for Goldblum to appear and...
Nothing...no dice.
No Jeff Goldblum.
What the freak USA Network?!
Don't say Jeff Goldblum is going to be in Criminal Intent if he isn't.
I'm not Watching Law and Order Criminal Intent because I like Watching Law and Order Criminal: Intent but because I want to see Jeff Goldblum act in Law and Order: Criminal Intent.
I don't turn the TV on for just any show or anything.
The whole fact that I am flipping to USA Network when there is no House and no Burn Notice to Watch is highly rare.
I might never attempt to Watch Law and Order: Criminal Intent again...because of failure to alert that, "Oh, the chief reason for which you are watching this show is not going to be on the show."
Anyways some Law and Order now...yeah, so this is the problem with normal TV. Because really who watches much TV this day? Usually people watch things online, through DVDs but sparingly on TV, if at all.
I was highly disappointed with the fact that the reason for which I was watching the show never really happened and I am left with the possibility of Jeff Goldblum being in the next episode.
But why should I believe USA Network when I see:

that description on their website when they've already lied to me?
Seriously it's not that big a deal but what if I never ever watched it again? ...Due to this small incident?
Blame USA Network...

Leopard...
Apr. 21st, 2009 | 02:09 am
I've been contemplating for the last few days--possibly about three of re-upgrading back to Leopard.
I've been getting highly annonyed by the small number of apps here and there that I've either updated and/or newly obtained that no longer support Tiger (10.4).
Sure it's a small number however small enough to bother me into re-upgrading back to Leopard.
Problem is that due to some moving I did about 6 months ago I have no idea at the time being where the disk is. I can't even find the 2nd disk to Tiger to install Mac OS 9 (Classic) since I lost all my stuff back in October...so yeah...
Where, oh, where could Leopard be...?

Problems With The Drive...
Apr. 18th, 2009 | 06:09 am
Madonn!
My PowerBook G4 is at again w/ it's Optical Drive problem.
This time it won't read or write a CD/DVD whether burned/unburned, etc.
The last time this happened I upgraded to Leopard and then fixed it by downgrading to Tiger...
Must I now downgrade to Panther?
At this point I am considering it.
Among other things wrong with my PowerBook G4 is the trackpad that has given up the ghost thus leaving me with strict usage of a wireless mouse.
Unlike some whom have a laptop and use it on a desk or a flat surface I use it on my lap. Believe me that usage of a mouse on one's leg or atop the laptop is as much a hassle as it is a balancing act once some minor fatigue sets in and you want to stretch.
Also I am on my third charger...if I have to buy another one I'll stop using the Powerbook because it won't be able to be used anyways.
Oh and it's a thrid party charger because I wasn't about to step into an Apple store to buy a third charger for a computer almost half the age of my iMac Bondi G3. (Even that computer has proved to be more formidable than my PowerBook G4). For if I did step into an Apple store or go to their website it would be to buy a new mac.
At one point I was so dissatisfied with my Mac that I thought of just buying a Windows Computer--no, not even running a bootcamp on Mac or installing Mac OS X on a Windows machine...
Just buying a Windows Enabled Computer (Ha! As if it was enabled to do things without first giving you headaches...lol).
One reason being is that after having lost all of my games I am reluctant to re-install all my games on my Mac for two reasons:
One, because I can't--or not easily as I have no optical drive. (Sure I can hook up my External CD Drive but what then of those on DVDs...huh?) Two games I'd like to play I'd have to get another computer and/or find a port of for Mac.
So yeah...having problems with the drive...

I've changed the livejournal style but I'll probably change it again now that I've changed it like five or six times now...
*sighs*
Now on to more important things--like sleep...ha!

Livejournal Style
Apr. 18th, 2009 | 05:04 am
Hmm, I haven't played around with the Livejournal style in literal years I believe.
Much has changed and so have the options.
I think this is the first time in a year or two that I've logged in to just do something else other than to edit a post, as I just usually post from my Apple Dashboard Widget for Livejournal...
Already I have spent way too much time on this thing here.
However what's taking me so long is the fact that changing my theme means I lose my two RSS Badges, Sitemeter, etc.
So I'm trying to find something that I like yet at the same time I'll be able to have at least the sitemeter...and the one RSS Badge, if it doesn't already have one that is.
Here I am asking myself what I am I doing because the last time I tried to doing this I ended up with the same one I've had now for years...

Leopard Is Gone...
Jun. 29th, 2008 | 04:15 pm

After exactly 8 months of having Mac OS X Leopard installed on my 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 it's gone.
At 12:10AM EST on the 29th of June I popped in: Install Disc 1 of the PowerBook G4 and began an Archive and Install of Mac OS X Tiger

...all that is now left of Leopard is the folder entitled: "Previous System 1."
I haven't felt like this since the day (October 28th, 2007) I actually installed Leopard.
Since my installing of Leopard, which went without a hitch, I began to collect my individual problems with Leopard. Chiefly in regards to my Optical Drive and it's abilities.
Thereafter I had began to have problems with my Airport dropping Wi-Fi Signals, Not Being able to Connect, and Not even Seeing Wi-Fi networks.
Other problems included the PowerBook heating up immensely--I didn't have it heating up before when I had Tiger on it.
Also just starting applications took considerably more on Leopard.
However I really enjoyed the Leopard operating system, so in spite of my problems I kept using it.
Then about two weeks ago I began to contemplate downgrading back to Tiger.
The turning point came when my younger Brother came to visit me and used my PowerBook and stated: "This thing is sooooo slow...man! Don't you have like a little over a Gig of RAM on this thing?"
Indeed it was slow and indeed I have a little over a Gig of RAM--1.25GBs of RAM to be precise.
That was late afternoon on June 28th that my Brother had commented on the state of my PowerBook.
So hours later I came to downgrade to Tiger.
My PowerBook G4 runs noticeably faster and programs load much quicker than before and even my internet connection is faster on Tiger.
Leopard is gone...Tiger is back.

Uncut Unveiled
Jun. 3rd, 2008 | 02:36 am
I decided to finally unveil Uncut over at Baywords by adding it to my lineup of badges or baybeees as Catharsis and I call them.
There are things that actually don't end up being unveiled by the act of me putting it on the badges such as Utterz and Pownce just to name a few. Why?
I'd like not publicize some things...or at least not till I am sure that I will update them in frequency and/or that I truly like the platform. However there are some exceptions.
For example del.icio.us, Flickr, Tumblr, and last.fm are platforms I like but recently have sparingly updated them but also didn't update them when had the chance due it being a bit daunting at times.
The are other things such as MySpace and YouTube that I have displayed just due to the fact that a lot of people have them and it would be weird not to have them.
Things I'd like not to publicize are Facebook as well as other things. Again why?
There's a lot of mix and matching as well as mashing today but I have never been one to mash separate social applications and/or post the same thing over and over again.
Link to them--sure, but I treat each service I sign up individually and will occasionally pay tribute and/or allude to a site's content.
However the Tumblr is one place where I have select sites all displayed into one.
If you're good at sifting out things you'll see each medium I've displayed in the badges has it's own specific content with it's own updating interval--although at the moment it's highly sporadic.
Back to Uncut though...Uncut is an interesting experiment for me. I'll explain:
dmotion over at Wordpress is commentary on news, social and tech. Due to time constraints I don't update it much; I intend to do so though...
This livejournal is more concrete analyzation of exclusive things plus slightly vague personal things.
The Tumblr is a mixture of Recently Listened Music updates, WriteSomething posts, Shared Items on Google Reader, as well as the Wordpress and this livejournal.
The MySpace blog is more in-depth, long drawn out and short reflective narratives about myself and situations I have come across. This is updated only when I have such situations that allow me to write as afore mentioned and when I have the time.
There's the Consider Tumblr which is an experiment I've put on hold mainly due to time constraints...
Yet Uncut is Uncut in more ways than one. In regards to myself and my activities on the net--Uncut explains it better...

Things of Happening
May. 31st, 2008 | 04:20 pm
I haven't had a working internet connection at home for the last month and a half or something.
As of now I am in a Library which is firewalled to the brim--even Twitter is blocked which surprises me as are the usual things--YouTube, etc.
I have been switching from Panera to a Library for sporadic internet usage which usually consists of email checking, and Feed Reading as well as sparingly checking my various social network accounts. It's messed up that all of the available connections at my home now are all locked and I haven't bothered trying to even break into them and use them.
I haven't had a working phone since the beginning of May so if I was hard to get a hold of before it's almost a literal impossiblity to maintain a constant flow of communication with me through the available mediums.
Some things I have postponed to post:
I hardly watched any films in March it was more TV series month for me:

New Amsterdam well cut, well acted, and told wonderfully. Many have brought up that the series bears a striking storyline to the film Man From Earth however I don't share this belief as there are very distinct differences between their origins. The show's opening theme is one that I have had playing in my head for weeks now much like "There Will Be Blood" and it's just so beautiful. The show is gripping from beginning to end and leaves one craving for more.

"The Riches" I am unsure of how such a marvelous intriguing show eluded me last year. I first became interested in the show as I sifted through a Rolling Stone Magazine and saw an advert that I had to turn the magazine sideways to enjoy of an entire family with long noses (a la Pinocchio) that aired on FX on Tuesdays at 10PM.
The advert was all that I needed to peak my interest and I watched the entire first season of the show and the first three episodes of the second season, the other episodes have yet to air. (Note: Currently the second season has only gone up to Episode Seven and they have stopped there...)
This is I believe my first actual post in months. Possibly if I get the urge to and ability to post later I'll fill in the gaps of my happenings..

Apple Mac Geniuses are Some Geniuses All Right
Feb. 13th, 2008 | 12:51 am
So continuing on with the ordeal of my not being able to Burn DVDs I went to the Apple Store...
Actually I have gone a total of about 4 different times weeks apart.
This last visit served only to demonstrate to me that Apple Geniuses are Some Geniuses All Right...
Each time I have presented my situation as I have written it ending with: "The error that it stated was that it failed to calibrate the optical drive."
Apple Geniuses' supplied answers:
"I believe that it is due to the optical drive and it's failure to calibrate itself."
Did I not just tell you that. If I wanted the error to be repeated to me I would have attempted to burn a DVD; not drive, suffer through traffic, waste gas and time.
"When you installed Leopard some core system files failed to copy over. You should attempt to reinstall Leopard again or attempt an archive and install."
First of all if it had been a core file I would have not been able to run Leopard for as long as I have been. Doing a reinstall/archive and install of Leopard is actually a good idea I have not yet had time to try. That was the only viable advice I got, however I knew this already.
"Leopard isn't supported on your current Mac and/or doesn't meet the system requirements."
I have a PowerBook G4 w/ 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4 and 1.25GB DDR SDRAM. To which he replied, "Yes, but it's not a MacBook or a MacBook Pro"
Apple says: "Mac computer with ... PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor, 512MB of memory"
"Yeah, usually when that happens I just advise people to purchase a new Mac."
Yes, this guy was very serious when he said that.
"When you installed Leopard did you shake or let the computer go to sleep?"
Wow, I don't think he knows that if I would have actually done that it wouldn't have finished installing...
"Your optical drive is not for a Mac."
Wow...it is stock from Apple.
"Well, the best thing for you to do is to schedule another appointment, drop your Mac off and we'll see what the problem is..."
Another one? Ha! I was supposed to be resolving this already...oh, that's right the solution is buying a new one...madonn!
...I had to express my frustration to my friend who was with me in Spanish.
Mind you Apple says:
"Who works at the Genius Bar?
Mac Geniuses — selected by Apple — are the most knowledgeable Mac people. Trained at Apple’s California headquarters, the Geniuses have broad expertise and know virtually all there is to know about your Mac or iPod."
Wow I'd be surprised if these guys knew the difference between mac and windows, ha! I'd be surprised if they actually knew their names and colored between the lines....
They always ended the nothingness that they did with, "Sorry we couldn't help you today, you can always try to schedule an appointment with another Genius to see if they can help you."
They wanted me to leave my Mac with them...(?!) With those kinds of answers I am surprised they let them work at all.

Can't Burn DVDs...
Jan. 13th, 2008 | 07:44 pm
Ever since I've gotten Leopard on my PowerBook G4 I have been unable to burn anything whether it's CD or DVD. If I connect the external CD Burner I have via USB that works but the internal stock CD/DVD Burner from Apple is rendered as unknown or it throws an error stating that it cannot be calibrated...
I got Mac OS X Leopard on the 28th of October...
This is highly frustrating to me and it has been the only problem that I have had with Leopard and I have heard other people have had various other problems.
I Can't Burn DVDs...that sucks a lot.

Jan. 11th, 2008 | 08:42 pm

I want to see this film: "The Bank Job"--I've always said, put Jason Statham in a dramatic role and you'll see something really great. I am awaiting the day when he will have such a role.
He just oozes off the screen, a perfect example of his presence oozing is in the film "London":
The soundtrack of the film is also amazing which was made by The Crystal Method.
So I will be seeing "The Bank Job"
Oh and you may be wondering about "Revolver"--I already saw that in 2005 and he's great in that as well, I even own the DVD but it's in Region 2 rofl :-P

"There Will Be Blood" pt 2
Jan. 5th, 2008 | 01:35 am
I got the opportunity to view "There Will Be Blood" today (1/4/07) at 4:00PM even after being told at one theatre that they weren't going to show it due to some difficulty with the actual film.
The film is utterly magnificent and it was what I had expected and more.
I almost got tears in my eyes with it's score and it's cinematography is utterly fabulous and it's editing amazing. The acting is legendary.
The film is epic and true cinema--true film.
It is grand storytelling as I have not seen in a long time.
Simply astounding.
I enjoyed every frame and second of this film--even it's credits.

Hiding In The Light
Dec. 30th, 2007 | 09:56 pm
To hide in the dark 'tis to hide where it is hard for there to be sight.
To hide in the light is to hide where all is in sight.
Feelings must be darkened and things feigned must be rightened
No one must see for that which is darken will be brightened
Disgust and anger must not be shown lest you be frightened,
with the thought that which is hidden will be blightened
Hiding in the light will make your senses always heightened.
To hide in the light is to hide where all is in sight.
Feelings must be darkened and things feigned must be rightened

"Beautiful Sleep..."
Dec. 30th, 2007 | 08:27 am
I like to call it "Beautiful Sleep..."
One hour of sleep that is amazingly beautiful that I awake and awake in such a calm state of awareness...
I had that...not too long ago.
I am overjoyed that I did.
I began to listen to music off my iPod and marvelled at my increased pleasure of listening to the music after this "Beautiful Sleep..."
I have had this "Beautiful Sleep..." in times past; it is a rare delight...
It is exceedingly delightful and so very welcomed especially today ...
I fell asleep contemplating and reminiscing--discombobulated and slightly worried--yet I awoke in rapturous joy and delight.
Take it as you may but I have much enjoyed my "Beautiful Sleep..."

Just Some Things...
Dec. 30th, 2007 | 04:39 am
I got into an accident...
I was unable to go see "There Will Be Blood" this morning at 12:00AM due to my accident.
I haven't sent a single update to Twitter in about 4 days and I am certain many people are wondering as to my whereabouts...
I haven't felt like using Twitter--I have also been very busy and wouldn't have been unable to update Twitter and do all the Twitter things I usually do so...it works out.
I am in a quandry...actually a great big quandry of sorts.
My accident early Saturday morning didn't help me in this quandry of mine, it only added a level of bizarreness to it.
This quandry of mine caused me to be perturbed early Saturday morning during the hours of 7AM-10AM...
Besides the stress and ailments that the accident had caused me, I was just discombobulated by my quandry...
and I am still...
At one point I was so discombobulated that I had the part in "Lawrence of Arabia" in my head when T.E. Lawrence is riding alone on the camel and begins to sing and listens to the echo...
Followed by me singing aloud whilst walking: "You can rumpty-tumpty-tumpty-tum. Te-tuttle-e-tum-te-tum-te-tum. I'm the man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo!"
Alas there was no clapping at the end of my singing...just weird looks.

"Possibly Maybe"
Dec. 26th, 2007 | 07:37 pm
"Possibly Maybe" by Björk
Music Video Directed by Stéphane Sednaoui:
Your flirt finds me out
Teases the crack in me
Smittens me with hope
Possibly maybe possibly maybe
possibly maybe
As much as I definitely enjoy solitude
I wouldn't mind perhaps
Spending little time with you
Sometimes
Sometimes
Possibly maybe probably love
Possibly maybe probably love
Uncertainty excites me
babe
Who knows what's going to happen?
Lottery or car crash
Or you'll join a cult
Probably maybe possibly love
Probably maybe possibly love, possibly
Mon petit vulcan
You're eruptions and disasters
I keep calm admiring your lava
I keep calm
Possibly maybe probably love
Possibly maybe probably love
Electric shocks?
I love them!
With you --> dozen a day
But after a while I wonder
Where's that love you promised me?
Where is it?
Possibly maybe probably love, possibly
Possibly maybe probably love, possibly
How can you offer me love like that?
My heart's burned
How can you offer me love like that?
I'm exhausted
Leave me alone
Possibly maybe possibly maybe
Possibly maybe
Since we broke up
I'm using lipstick again
I suck my tongue
In remembrance of you...

Simple Pleasures
Dec. 26th, 2007 | 04:40 am
I have been thinking of the simple pleasures...
The simple pleasure of using the internet, the simple pleasure of IM, the simple pleasure...
Simple things...
Lately it's a hassle to update this and update that and get on this and check that.
It is no longer simple and it is a tedious thing.
Things are starting to be a chore and no long simple as they were.
I miss the simple things--the simple pleasures...
I like that. The simple things.
Simple Pleasures...
The simple pleasure of using the internet, the simple pleasure of IM, the simple pleasure...
Simple things...

"There Will Be Blood"
Dec. 24th, 2007 | 07:29 am

I Yearn to See this film, "There Will Be Blood" for it's potential epicness, it's inspiration that is drawn from Upton Sinclair's novel entitled "Oil!" and for it's music which brings a pleasure that I can only akin to the likes of "Lawrence of Arabia"...that is a grandiose statement coming from me...

I am looking forward so very much to viewing this film and seeing it's cinematography and it's editing.

RIAA Threatens...
Jul. 14th, 2007 | 06:03 am
So here comes the RIAA to extort money...or more like warning that it will go to that extent to protect copyright and the artists...yeah right...
In a letter received by a friend the RIAA shows just how nice they are:
"Dear Sir or Madam:
I am contacting you on behalf of the Recording Industry Association of America, Inc. (RIAA) and its member record companies. The RIAA is a trade association whose member companies create, manufacture and distribute approximately ninety (90) percent of all legitimate sound recordings sold in the United States. Under penalty of perjury, we submit that the RIAA is authorized to act on behalf of its member companies in matters involving the infringement of their sound recordings, including enforcing their copyrights and common law rights on the Internet." (emphasis mine)
First and foremost the RIAA defines itself as a trade association and nothing more.
They go on to say, "Under penalty of perjury" as if that has any foothold or veracity with them--I'm supposed to believe that someone who would ask for a bill not to be passed to further commit fraud, would makeup piracy stats, would threaten to intimidate 10 year old girls, wouldn't commit perjury for the cause of extortion--I mean hey if you're going to go the one yard go the whole nine yards right...
Heh, this gets me:
"This server is providing access to tens of thousands of copyrighted works by such artists as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bon Jovi, The White Stripes and Gwen Stefani. We have a good faith beliefthat the above-described activity is not authorized by the copyright owner, their agent, or the law."
Uh-huh and I suppose they want as much money as the GDP of France to cover the, er, losses they have suffered...
"We have a good faith belief" what in the world is that...?! Good faith belief--that just means they have no idea what they're doing...they're a trade association if something truly illegal is happening first of all you wouldn't be hearing from the RIAA plus you don't just say, I have good faith belief that you murdered someone...you say it. Their usage of words clearly shows that nothing illegal is truly going on here just something that annoys them--nobody says I have good faith belief...except the RIAA of course...
"...is not authorized by the copyright owner, their agent, or the law."
Oh yeah and they know this how? Oh yeah because they have such great communication with artists right and they're looking out for them oh yes, how nice they've protected them...
Oh and here comes their money making phrase...
"under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, if you ignore this notice, you and/or your company may also be liable for any resulting infringement. This letter does not constitute a waiver of any right to recover damages incurred by virtue of any such unauthorized activities, and such rights as well as claims for other relief are expressly retained. We assert that the information in this notification is accurate, based upon the data available to us"
That was a load of crap...
What it means is if you didn't know these 'bad' things were happening--tough--we'll sue you for not knowing and those infringing as well and you are held responsible because we say you are and we own the stuff and that gives the right to tell you that you have no right. What we told you is right because we have the manpower, and money to prove its true--even if it's not true and not accurate in spite that it may be one of own saying it, it's still true because we said it first.
They invoke their god, the DMCA...by prefixing it with the words: "under the..."
The DMCA is to the RIAA what Terrorism is to Politicians--their reason for everything...
I suppose that under the DMCA it also gives the RIAA the right to assume the identify of the FBI and Interpol and to raid whatever they wish and go after Organized Crime and bring RICO aganist persons right...oh ok...
"We assert that the information in this notification is accurate, based upon the data available to us."
Wow, again I'm supposed to believe these lying vipers when they say that this is accurate when they taint stats and commit fraud and the audacity of them saying that it's accurate based upon the data available to them...
Ha! Yeah since when are they a credible source of accuracy...and who died and made them to be the end all be all for something like this...
They are a trade association not a law enforcement agency--they are in no way affiliated with the Government--except by bribes that is--I mean lobbyists.
For them to say, "including enforcing their copyrights and common law rights on the Internet"
"Common law rights"--?! ...On the internet? Seriously they're lying they can't enforce laws...I repeat they are not a law enforcement agency...enforce copyrights--maybe, possibly if they are the sole copyright owners...
They say so quickly is not authorized by the copyright owner, their agent, or the law" but have they taken the time to ask those whom they themselves have listed if they would like to enforce copyright?
Of course in all reality it doesn't matter because the RIAA is crazy and they're the real criminals and will do anything to extort...remember the RIAA are the ones that invoke the DMCA, that they say entitles them to a restitution of revenue 6 times more than the World's GDP approximately for one year of piracy give or take--but even that wouldn't satisfy them...
They end the letter assuming compliance:
"Thank you in advance for your prompt assistance in this matter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at RIAA, 1025 F Street NW, 10th Floor, Washington, D.C., 20004, Tel. (202) 775-0101, or e-mail antipiracy@riaa.com."
Heh, please make sure to call the number/email and give them a piece of your mind--I'm sure they wouldn't mind.
